Urge Surfing

Event details

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning about and trying out practical skills to help them manage urges.

Urge surfing is a technique that can be used to help manage thoughts and feelings that can lead to us engaging in problematic or impulsive behaviours. Urge surfing is a mindfulness technique which is often practiced in ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy). Instead of surrendering to the urge or trying to resist or fight it, we learn instead to simply observe and give space to the thoughts and feelings as they rise and inevitably fall. With familiarity and practice of the technique you can increase your confidence in managing problematic urges as they arise in your own life.
