Getting started: Help Yourself! Coping with Eating Distress

Entry to this group is via Counsellor referral only.

These sessions will be face to face, taking place in Wellbeing Rooms, 1.63 Large Group Room, Simon Building. This event will adhere to any current social distancing guidelines set out by the government at the time. This may result in the event being held online. Social distancing guidelines for face to face events will be sent to participants nearer the time of the scheduled event. This event will close for registration at 9 am on the day of the group or when full. You will be unable to attend these face to face sessions unless you have booked online. We would advise that you take a Lateral Flow Test before you attend this session. You can pick a free test kit up from food outlets around the university or online.

The 'Getting Started' workshop provides an introduction to the 5-week Help Yourself! Coping with Eating Distress course which follows and is a prerequisite for it; it gives you an opportunity to see if it is for you and to opt in to the course.

The workshop can help you to start addressing difficulties you may be experiencing around food. You may have irregular eating patterns, restrict what you eat, feel guilty about eating certain foods, or perhaps find it difficult to stop eating when you want to. Maybe you are preoccupied with thoughts or feelings that you are fat or perhaps you've had an eating disorder. These and other problems related to eating can interfere with concentration and affect mood.

Throughout the 5 week course which follows the introductory workshop, you will develop a better understanding of yourself and your relationship to food, identify manageable changes that you can make and coping skills to help you achieve those changes.
