Developing Skills in Assertiveness

Event details

This session will be face to face, taking place in Counselling and Mental Health Service (CS1), Room 5.004, Fifth Floor, Crawford House. This event will adhere to any current social distancing guidelines set out by the government at the time. This may result in the event being held online. Social distancing guidelines for face to face events will be sent to participants nearer the time of the scheduled event. This event will close for registration at 9 am on the day of the group or when full. You will be unable to attend these face to face sessions unless you have booked online. We would advise that you take a Lateral Flow Test before you attend this session. You can pick a free test kit up from food outlets around the university or online.

One-off workshop

Do you sometimes feel trapped in a limited range of responses to the demands of others?

Do you sometimes find it difficult to express yourself?

How do you handle criticism?

Are you your own biggest critic?

This workshop will look briefly at the different communication styles which contrast with an assertive style : passive, passive -aggressive, aggressive. We will then look at how an assertive style can allow us to be more effective communicators and help us to find a better balance in our relationships.
